Lincoln has a rich history, helped by the Romans, Vikings and Normans having all settled here throughout the years. The picturesque City was found by the Romans in 48AD when they built a hill fort, which latterly became the site of Lincoln Castle, and followed this with the construction of a town ‘Lindum Colonia’.

During the fall of the Roman Empire, the City fell into decay and was left almost abandoned, until the Vikings invaded British shores. The Saxons were most influential on creating two important components of our City today, Lincoln Castle and Cathedral.

William the Conqueror and his Norman forces settled here and since the commission of the Castle build, this has latterly became one of the most important landmarks in the County of Lincolnshire and home to one of the four surviving original Magna Carta documents; a document which published legal rights and helped shape the law.
More about the Magna Carta:
Throughout the Industrial Revolution and the 20th century, Lincoln established itself as an engineering power. Several world-famous companies arose, such as Ruston’s, Clayton’s, Proctor’s and William Foster’s, who excelled in engineering, building locomotives, steam shovels and other heavy machinery. Throughout the two world wars, Lincoln began producing items for war and subsequently the first tank was designed and built in Lincoln by William Foster. These tanks were tested on Tritton Road, which now is home to various shopping outlets and businesses.
